The RRM Elderly feeding program for needy elderly aims at identifying the neediest cases among the elderly people living around poverty-stricken villages, so far in Bamba in coastal Kenya. Each month, RRM provides them with nutritious food rations as a way of promoting their health.
Celebrating 4 years since when it began in August 2020, the program has impacted more than 40 beneficiaries from Bamba who receive assorted foodstuff including rice, beans, sugar, porridge flour, cooking oil, tea leaves , and toiletries on a monthly basis.
Reduced rainfall in recent seasons has compromised the region's food security and nutrition, with the elderly being the most hit. Many of them depend on neighbors, well wishers, and sporadic relief aid from the government. At times there is no help forthcoming which forces them to skip meals. Subsequently, with nothing in the stomach, those who have ailments are unable to adhere to medication which worsens their ailments.
This month, we were happy to deliver food hampers to the needy elderly. The activity was conducted successfully with the help of our RRM Elderly care team. The elderly received the gifts with joy. The activity took 3 days, September 18, 19, & 20. The foodstuff hampers contained Rice, beans, porridge flour, cooking oil, sugar, tea leaves, and multi-purpose washing soap.
